As we get ready to sign off for a much-needed Memorial Day weekend in the U.S., the Song of the Week selection was obvious: Loverboy’s 1981 hit “Working for the Weekend.”
The song was the first single off the Canadian band’s second album, Get Lucky, and 44 years later, it remains the act’s most enduring hit. When you think of ’80s music, “Working for the Weekend” inevitably springs to mind.
“Working for the Weekend” reached #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and it propelled Get Lucky to #7 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Loverboy had more hits throughout the ’80s but split up in 1988. They’ve reunited numerous times since, continuing to tour and occasionally releasing new music.
