NSC Conference Recognized for Growth

On April 28, the National Safety Council (NSC) announced its annual conference, the Safety Congress & Expo, has been recognized for growth in three categories: attendance, exhibiting companies, and net square feet of exhibition space.

Trade Show Executive magazine, which covers the business exhibition industry for trade show and event executives, awarded the NSC’s Congress & Expo three “Fastest 50” awards for the group’s 2024 Orlando event. The NSC previously received the same three awards for its 2022 San Diego event.

The 2025 NSC Safety Congress & Expo will be held September 12–18 in Denver. The NSC recently awarded 50 Advanced Safety Certificate (ASC) scholarships to U.S. veterans for enrollment in the ASC program and registration and travel accommodations for the 2025 Congress & Expo.

“We’re proud to provide a platform where safety leaders can connect with the latest innovations, education, and networking opportunities to advance their safety programs.” Andrew Darhmohraj, senior director of conventions at the NSC, said in a statement.

The NSC also urged construction industry employers and safety professionals to participate in the National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction from May 5 to 9. The NSC is one of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) partners for the Safety Stand-Down event, along with the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR), and National Construction Safety Executives.

Since the event’s launch in 2012, millions of workers and thousands of employers have participated in Stand-Down events, according to the NSC.

Recommended Stand-Down activities include:

  • Toolbox talks on ladder, scaffold, and roof safety;
  • Safety equipment demonstrations;
  • Training sessions and safety videos;
  • Safety inspections;
  • Hazard recognition walks; and
  • On-the-job stories.

“The National Safety Stand-Down reminds us that every fall is preventable and every worker deserves to go home safely,” NSC President and CEO Lorraine Martin said in a statement. The NSC is a not-for-profit organization that includes occupational safety and health professionals but also advocates for safety in the home and on roadways.

Falls are one of the construction industry’s “fatal four” safety hazards, along with caught-in/-between, electrocution, and struck-by hazards. OSHA’s construction industry fall protection standard has remained its most frequently cited regulation for 14 years.
